Earlier I called myself a hybrid storm: part nature, part human. That’s not quite right. Humans and Hurricanes are part of nature. We both thrive on this planet thanks to sunlight, water and carbon dioxide (CO2). Hurricanes and tropical storms have been around for millions of years. In the last 50 years things have changed. The oceans are warmer. This week the waters off the US east coast were 3 degrees C warmer than normal.

Hi Stephen,
What utter rubbish. We humans had nothing to do with causing Hurrucane Sandy or any other hurricanes or damaging weather events. These are simply Mother Nature doing what she has been doing since the Earth began. All that we humans can do is adapt to whatever is thrown at us – ’twas ever thus.
Have a very happy Xmas and best wishes for 2013. I hope that you manage to find a proper job.
Best regards, Pete Ridley
Pete, I never said climate change caused Sandy or other extreme weather events. Climate science shows climate change is making these events worse and more frequent because global temps are higher and there is more water vapour in the atmosphere. If you read the series all this is carefully explained.
I”ll probably continue to write about the reality we face: “At the edge of the carbon cliff” http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/dec/18/carbon-emissions-climate-change
My best wishes for the holidays and hope you might reflect that you just might be wrong about all this….
Hi Stephen,
thanks for the response and for leaving my comment up. I expected you to take it down as you seemed to do with my previous one. You say ” .. I never said climate change caused Sandy .. ” but I didn’t say anything about climate change either did I? What I said a=was ” .. We humans had nothing to do with causing Hurrucane Sandy .. “.so what does your reference to “anthrostorm” mean?
I would like to chat privately with you and can be contacted on pete.ridley at the mail service fsmail.net if you are up for it.
If you are otherwise occupied until after Xmas have a great one.
